Chapter 22: New Beginnings

Image
Nihao!!!! Hello! This week was a great week full of new beginnings! The first thing is I got a new companion! She is Sister Christensen, and this is her 5th transfer on island, and I am on my 3rd. So we are both pretty young missionaries, but we will work super hard to keep SongShan bumping!  Another thing that happened this week is that LIANG JIEMEI GOT BAPTIZED!!!!!! It was so wonderful. She is just the most funny, amazing, fantastic person in the world, and I love her with all my heart. I am so glad she was able to get baptized and follow Jesus Christ!!!  I am so grateful for this gospel and all the blessings I get from being a missionary. Just when I think it is too hard, the Lord blesses me so much with SO MUCH HAPPINESS. Honestly this week has been kind of crazy for me. I now have to lead the area for my new companion, and it's harder than training haha. But seriously I have felt more genuine happiness this week than I have my whole mission. I LOVE THIS GOSPEL. ...

Chapter 21: Let me tell you all a story...

Ni hao!! Okay let me tell you all a little story about my favorite person in the world Liang Jie Mei. Wow she's great. We met her in like the middle of August when we were English finding. We didn't even walk up to her, she walked up to us and was very interested in learning English. She was a little crazy and talked really fast, so we just wrote down our number, gave her and English tract and kind of forgot about her. Then the next day we get a call and it's her and she wants us to come over and teach her English because she won't be able to come to English class this week. So we tell her that we are going to share a message with her about Jesus Christ as well as teach her English and that was that. The first day we went over there we taught English and shared about the Book of Mormon, and she was willing to learn more! So we started going over to her house several times a week and she liked what we were teaching her, but there wasn't any super big change goin...

Chapter 20: "Chinese is like hieroglyphics, just a lot more complicated"

Image
Nihao! My email subject is a direct quote from one of the Elder's investigators who has perfect Chinese and English. I don't think there is a better way to describe Chinese. AGH CHARACTERS.  This week was so awesome though! Sister Kwan and I saw a lot of miracles. Last week when we set up a mom, we thought she was just going to bring herself to the lesson. She ended up bringing her 2 cute little children (one is 2 and the other one is 3 months, Taiwanese babies are SO CUTE!) and she also brought HER HUSBAND. That's one of the hardest things to do in Taiwan, is to baptize the husbands. Our Relief Society (the church's women's organization) is huge, while our Elder's Quorum (the men's organization) is so small. They seemed really interested and we set up with them again, so I am so excited to continue to share about this gospel that has brought me so much joy! I loved conference this weekend! So much good council! I just want to reiterate what the...

Chapter 19: The Adventures of Leslie Knope and Ann Perkins

Image
Nihao! For those of you who haven't seen Parks and Rec before, that is what my email subject line is referring to. One of the Elders in our district said that we were just like Leslie and Ann (which is like one of the best compliments you could ever get) and it just stuck. We just have sososososo much fun doing missionary work!  This week we saw a lot of miracles. We received training on listening to the Spirit better and so Sister Kwan and I really tried to work on that. One night because we were really just trying to follow the Spirit, we ended up setting up with a mom, getting free shaved ice from someone we met on the street and getting their number, and getting 2 new investigators. It was seriously such a miracle.  This week I was also better about taking pictures haha. We teach kind of a lot of old ladies haha. But they are all so cute and nice!  Also sometimes here they have Buddhist parades? There was one last month that looked a little bit ...
