Chapter 34: Goodbye High Rises, Hello Rice Fields
Hello!!!!
I got transferred this week! I moved from the big, bustling city of Taipei to the quiet, rural east coast of Yilan (ee-lawn). Let me tell you, what a change that was! Here are some of the biggest differences:
Songshan- tall buildings. everywhere
Yilan- there is one tall fancy hotel, and that's it
Songshan- 5:30 in the evening is a very terrifying time to ride your bike because everyone is getting off of work and it is very crazy and scary
Yilan- 5:30, 6 cars on the road
Songshan- no nature. only concrete
Yilan- 10 minutes away from the beach, 20 minutes away from the mountains, palm trees everywhere
Songshan- no rice fields. anywhere.
Yilan- rice fields. everywhere.
Songshan- no dark and scary roads. lights everywhere.
Yilan- plenty of dark and scary roads. Lined with rice fields. I have a huge fear of falling off the road on my bike and falling into a rice field hahahaha.
Songshan- East Taipei, the rainiest part of Taipei and one of the rainier, colder parts of Taiwan
Yilan- the only place colder and rainier
Songshan- American companion who speaks English
Yilan- Taiwanese companion who doesn't speak English. also she's 28 and I'm 19 haha. BUT SHE'S SO SICK.
okay that last one is only circumstantial, but still.
Basically, Yilan and Songshan are two very different places, but I LOVE YILAN SO MUCH. It is so great!! We've already seen so many miracles and it's been so awesome being here. One day we were walking to a place to eat dinner and we asked this lady what good places there are to eat around here, and she was like, oh the night market! Actually, I'll just change my plans and take you there! She then proceeded to take us to the nearest night market, buy us a bunch of snacks, bought us dinner, and we ended up sharing with her a little bit of the restoration and how to pray, and she was interested and set up with us to meet this coming week! It was such a miracle and was like the coolest thing ever.
Love you all so much! Hope you have a wonderful week, and keep reading the Book of Mormon everyday, it's the best book out there!
Love,
Sister Larson
1. Last district picture of the transfer. it's only like the most awkward thing you've ever seen in your life. why is every single district picture I ever take so awkward.
2. This is Yilan. It is really, really big. Bigger than Taipei city, I think. no just kidding, it's like way bigger than Taipei city #ricefieldsfordayssssss
3. A cute train at the Yilan train station
4. Guo baba and Guo mama!!! My trainer served here in Yilan for 4 transfers before moving to Songshan for 4, and there she trained me. I was in Songshan for 4 transfers, and moved to Yilan, just like she did! It's so great. She told me many things about Guo baba, and I finally got to meet him! Haha it was so great. YILAN IS LITERALLY A DREAM COME TRUE. #loveit
