Chapter 65: Friends lost, friends found

大家早
This week was great! And crazy! But crazy great!
The craziest thing that happened this week was that my most favorite app in the world, MaaS360, (please take note of the sarcasm) died this last week. So for some background. MaaS360 is an app that the church has us put on our phones that restricts us from doing a lot of things. Like going to websites that aren't lds.org. Or downloading apps that aren't approved by the church. Which is good. I'm grateful for this app in the sense. But it also makes our phones incredibly slow and it makes them crash frequently. But then. On Monday night we get this text from the recorder elder in our mission group chat that basically says "MaaS360 is having some issues and it's deleting every app that you ever downloaded on your phone. So in case that happens, don't panic. The church is trying to fix it." Lol. Our apps literally have our entire area book on them. And the only way to contact our friends. So without them, we literally have no way to get a hold of our friends. So it was Monday night and I was trying to look up a scripture to send over Line to our friend when my phone froze, then kind of shut down. Next thing you know, I have no apps and no way to contact friends. And then the same thing happened to Sister Cajilig. It was so weird, Sister Cajilig and I felt so isolated lol. Thankfully, MaaS360 came back the next day and we were only without our apps for about 16 hours. We like to call this "The Great MaaS360 Crash of 2018." #crisisaverted
In other news, we had a great, crazy week! I'm Friday we had 9 appointments with friends almost every hour from 11 to 9, with only breaks in between for meals. It was so fun! Highlight lessons: We made brownies at the church with our friend Vickey and while we were waiting for them to bake we taught her the restoration. It was fun for 2 reasons: 1. Because we got to share about the restoration and 2. Because we got to introduce her to box brownie mix brownies. Another great lesson was with two sisters that are so cool! One is finishing her master's in neuroscience and then she will head to America next year to do her PhD. The other one is starting her master's in business management! We shared with them the restoration and they thought it was so cool and are willing to read the Book of Mormon! We are so excited about Evie and Jessie!
That's about it for this week. Can't believe Fall semester is starting already! Crazy!
Love,
Sister Larson

Pics!

1. We finally got a SUNday pic. Unfortunately one of the elders wasn't wearing a yellow tie but his companion used a little phone magic and fixed that haha.

2. Sister Cajilig and I bought matching star wars shirts. #youwishyoucouldbelikeus

3. Saturday I guess was Baibai day (pronounced byebye) which means that it was some sort of holiday where everyone goes outside to baibai (worship your ancestors). To do this, you set up a table with your ancestor's favorite food, stick some sticks of incense in there, light 'em up, and then burn paper money in a metal bucket thing to bring them lots of money and good luck. It's so funny when it's baibai day because you walk outside and there's kind of a haze in the air. I always am confused because it seems just like there's a forest fire nearby, but it's Taiwan no forest fires exist haha. Then you start to smell incense, and you know that it's baibai day. Literally you walk outside anywhere and it literally just smells like incense. Well, there's your little tidbit of Taiwanese/Buddhist culture off the week.

4. We went on exchanges in Yonghe and my 2 friends from Yilan who moved to Yonghe just happened to have set up a dinner appointment with the sisters that I got to go to! It was so fun seeing old friends.

5. Sister Cajilig trying to do our best baibai.
