Chapter 53:Happy anniversary to me

Image
WOW. What a year. I have officially been a missionary for one year. One year of testifying of Jesus Christ. One year of learning Chinese. One year of ups and downs. One amazing year I'll never forget. And I still have 6 months!! This week was great! A little harder in terms of finding people than other weeks, but still an awesome week! We had an awesome opportunity to find a lot of new investigators from posting on Facebook about English class. And Muzha was a Facebook success too! So we called up all the referrals we got and set up a time to meet with them. It was going to be so great! But then when we tried to confirm with them, they wouldn't answer us. And when their appointments came, they wouldn't come. This normally happens to us once a week or so, all in the normal life of a missionary. But this week it happened 6 times! We got stood up 6 times, which wasn't super pleasant. I think this week was one of those weeks where we have to just step back, have faith, an...

Chapter 52: My Worst Nightmare Becomes a Reality (But Also Dream Comes True So It's Okay)

大家好 To explain my title we must begin many years ago when my family was on vacation in Europe. This was the time in my life that I realized I was completely terrified of birds because they always seemed follow me and fly to close to me. Basically birds are the worst (but not clothes with birds on them. I'm all about that life lol). Anyways while there I realized that I would have a lifelong enmity with birds.  Well, the saga continues.   A couple months ago a member in Yilan told my companion and I that during the month of May there were certain birds that for some reason, only in Yilan county, birds would attack people. Especially if they were riding a motor scooter or a bike because it would attack their helmets. After this story was told, I promptly put it out of my mind and tried to forget about it because I was so scared and didn't want to ever think about it again. That was the wrong way to go. So, May rolls around and the birds are ready, but Siste...

Chapter 51: Some Seeds Take Longer Than Others

哈囉!!!  So because I talked to my family today (woot woot! Last time and then I get to see them in person!) this letter is going to be kind of short, but I just want to say a quick, super sick story.  This story starts in 1998 (or earlier, not 100% sure haha, but we'll just say 1998 because that's the only date I have.) There was a family who owned a noodle shop on the small Taiwan-owned island of PengHu. And it just so happens that the Mormon missionaries lived across the street from them and used to frequent their noodle shop. They would invite the elders over to their house for dinner on Sundays and the elders would share about Jesus Christ with them. They even had a book that they would have missionaries getting transferred write in so they could remember them. Unfortunately, this family never got baptized, but the missionaries really influenced them a lot. Then they moved away from PengHu and lost contact with the missionaries.  Fast forward 20 years, and this family...

Chapter 50: So Many Magical Moments

Image
大家好! Wow. Okay for reals this might have been one of my top 10 weeks on my mission (and next week will be up there too). There were so many amazing things happen! To start off, last week we set a really solid date for Lin JieMei on May 12. She said she really feels prepared and she's excited to start a new chapter in her life. She's really reading the Book of Mormon and she believes in prophets now, which she was struggling with earlier. Anyways, on Saturday she passed her baptismal interview!  her baptism is this Saturday! Which will make May 12th even more important to me! (Happy birthday to you, Eric!) We are so excited for Lin JieMei! Another super cool that happened this week was with English class! Last week I talked about how we had so much success getting English class referrals through posting on Facebook, so we tried doing it again this week. Apparently Tuesday night at 8:45 is the right time to do it, because Elder Brown's and my pictures just blew up. Betwee...

Chapter 49: The Perfect Date

Image
大家,午安! Wow, it's been such a great week this week! We saw a lot of cool miracles happen with English class, and we got to go with Zhuang JieMei to the temple! It was so awesome, but more on that later.  Last Sunday we decided that, in order to get more English students, we would share about our English class website on multiple different Facebook pages in the area. A few elders in our mission made this super cool website ( www.taiwaneng.com , you can check it out, but I'm pretty sure it's all in Chinese haha) and on the website you can sign up for English class! They also made a "Facebook messenger bot" that automatically sends us the referrals from the website as soon as they come through. It's like literally the sickest thing. So after we posted about the English class on Facebook ( Sunday  night at 7 is the best time to do it, just so you know) our posts just blew up and we had a ton of people liking them, commenting, and signing up for English class fro...
